Failure is such a conceptual idea. It is entirely based on opinion – whether that is the opinion of yourself, others or society. Just because the path you choose to walk is different to that which is accepted, does not mean you are a failure. Everyone has their own journey and you shouldn’t use what happens in other people’s lives as a marker for whether you are or are not successful.Read More
Something many of us don’t realise is that we are our own best friend and worst enemy. You hold the key to your success and the fuel for your destruction. You are as capable of building yourself up and motivating yourself, as you are of tearing yourself down. Your thoughts about yourself can alter the way that you see the world around you and how you believe people perceive you. If you encourage and believe in yourself, you will improve your self-image and ultimately your self- confidence.Read More
Life is filled with so many choices – from deciding what to eat for dinner to what careers we choose. The magnitude of the impact a choice has can vary from very small to life altering. In many regards choices can be crippling, but they can also be exhilarating. They can force you to unlock the potential hidden away inside of you, you just need to take the plunge and follow your heart. Some of the toughest decisions come from within, if the choice sits well with your heart – no matter the outcome, it will be fine.Read More
Setting yourself goals in all aspects of your life gives you the opportunity to visualise your purpose. It allows you to see the path you want to go down and the end point seems a little closer. The beauty of regularly reviewing your goals is that you can easily alter them to make them more realistic for your timeframe or to factor in any changes you come across. Goals allow you to free yourself from the shackles of uncertainty as you know what you want and have figured out how you will get to it. This week, try and write a list of aims that you want to accomplish – write a little rough outline of your goals and why you want to achieve them. At the end of the week, review what you have written and whether you have achieved them. This can also work for setting yourself long term goals with short term check points.Read More
Growing up we all had an image of what our future should look like. We would spend hours fantasising about where we would be by a certain age. Although these ideas were just the product of a young child’s imagination, we somehow tend to bind ourselves to what we imaged our lives to be like. The thing about growing up is that it gives you the opportunity to discover more about yourself and to reveal doors you never knew existed. Just because you are not where you imagined to be by 25 doesn’t mean you are a failure. The end point of this journey will be so much more fruitful than what we imagined for ourselves. You have grown and so have your dreams.Read More
One of my favourite verses in the Quran is ‘verily with hardship comes ease’. There is so much peace and reassurance in its meaning, it’s almost like Allah is telling you that no matter how bad it gets – life gets better. At the end of every storm there is a rainbow. Just because today isn’t great, doesn’t mean tomorrow won’t be. Life is quite funny in that way, to understand the sweet taste of happiness – you need to go through the discomfort and the trials. This is your journey, filled with its unique blend of bends and dead ends – so no matter how difficult it gets, feel reassured in the fact that after every difficulty comes peace.Read More
As humans we make mistakes. It is part of our nature and it is inevitable. However, for some reason every time we make a mistake we beat ourselves up about it. We put ourselves down and constantly remind ourselves of what we did wrong. Although it can be a learning experience and looking back at past mistakes can help you grow – constantly belittling yourself for something that you can’t change doesn’t really do much good. And we do this to other people too. Why is it that we expect people to forgive our mistakes, but hold onto the mistakes committed by other people? The past can’t be changed, but the way we feel about it can be. Why allow what has already gone affect the way that you behave today? Rather than replaying that moment in your mind again and again, try to prevent it from happening again. Learn to forgive and forget the mistakes that have been committed– especially by yourself.Read More
The toughest part of any race is the final stretch. When the finish line is in sight, but you can feel your knees buckling below you. It is at that moment that you need to visualise why you started. You need to take yourself back and let those emotions run through you. At the start, you were so full of energy and so excited to start this journey – bring that back. That is the only thing that will get you over that finish line. If your desire for starting was so strong at the beginning, all it needs now is a little extra fuel. It is still there. Don’t believe for one second that it has left you or that it has died away. You are just caught up in this moment where your tiredness is overpowering you. Remember why you started and finishing will become a closer reality than you think.Read More
Time is such an abstract concept. We bind ourselves by the fact that time is always running out. We rush through life and put off doing things because ‘there is no time’. We are on this Earth for a set number of days and with this mind set we ARE always out of time because we never know when our last day is. However, we should live everyday as if it is our last day, don’t leave the important things undone or unsaid. That way you can leave this planet knowing you have lived true to yourself and your soul.
On the other hand, it is a little contradictory – but we should always put provisions in place for the future. We should live for now and what is to come – whether it comes or not isn’t important at this moment. Live in the moment, but understand that the decisions you make today will affect your tomorrow whether that is in this dunya or the next.
One of things you need to come to terms with as you grow older is that there are some people will just not like you. There is nothing personal about it, they simply just don’t understand your personality or character. As a person, you need to look beyond this. Don’t focus on the one person who doesn’t understand you, but instead focus on those who love and support you. We often overlook the good things in our lives and instead beat ourselves over the things that are beyond our control. Try today to put more of your effort into what makes you happy instead of slaving over the things in life you cannot change.Read More
Some days take a minute for yourself. We are rushing through this world at a thousand miles per hour, that we are missing out on the small details of life. Take a moment to watch how the clouds swim through the sky or how the leaves on the trees sway in the wind. Just stop, pause and breathe. Because you might just see something that you can brighten up your whole day and mood. There is more to life than working and paying the bills. Enjoy the company of those you love, have that slice of cake you really want and just live in the moment.Read More
Passion is a desire which burns within you. However, just like a fire, this can burn and die away quite quickly. Therefore, you need to tend to your passion just as you would a flame. You need to give it as much time and effort as you can to allow it to become the blazing force it can be. This won't always be as easy as it sounds, but it will be worth it in the end.Read More
The problem with many of us in today’s society is that we chase the satisfaction of people. We desire the attention and the compliments to the point where our lives are driven just to place people. This disease of people-pleasing is so detrimental to us, causing us harm from the inside without us even knowing.
So stop chasing the newest gadgets and trends in a bid to stay relevant, and start living a life where you make decisions based on how you feel and want to feel.
